Barres tendered for this through Public Contracts Scotland.
The requirement was for nine commercial solar PV systems and two large solar thermal systems at various locations throughout the Western Isles. The project presented challenges in terms of the locations and logistics involved. The mechanical works for the properties in Uist and Benbecula were completed by the Inverness office of G & A Barnie with the electrical works completed by the Stornoway office. The properties on Lewis were carried out by the Stornoway office.
All the scaffolding works were carried out by Alex Murray Construction with the integration of the solar thermal system to the existing BMS carried out by Campbell Controls North.
Over 70kW of solar PV and 45kWth of solar thermal was installed across nine properties. The project was fully designed and supplied by Barres. The PV system had 264 BenQ 245W polycrystaline panels with a Schüco mounting system. The inverters were a mixture of single and three phase SMA inverters.
The solar thermal systems comprised of a total of 27 TiSUN FM-S and FM-W panels. Barres also assisted with the application for the feed in tariffs for each property.
